Reading/Language Arts: Flex Reading - To maximize student learning, Oster School utilizes a flexible reading approach. Students are assigned to "Flex Reading" groups which are designed to create learning opportunities to meet students at their instructional level. Flex Reading begins for Grade 3 mid September. Ms. McDowell's Flex Reading Group incorporates Great Books (Inquiry Method with classically themed text) into reading curriculum and works with non-fiction text through Razkids online learning program. Advanced academic vocabulary using Latin and Greek derivatives is taught during Flex. Also incorporated into our program is Razkids for non-fiction reading. We will be working on novel studies this year. Second trimester begins a novel study on the book Loser by Jerry Spinelli Third trimester we embark on a novel study for Charlotte's Web by E.B. White
